Warm weekend, next rain chances and cool down to follow

It was a warm and sunny afternoon in the Stateline with high temperatures reaching the upper 80s for some, including a high of 88° in Rockford, our 4th straight day of above average temperatures. The sunshine will stick around into the weekend with high pressure taking over.

Skies will remain mostly clear into the night under incoming high pressure and lightening winds. But low-level moisture with dew points in the mid/upper 60s will keep overnight lows from dropping too far, only reaching the mid-60s at most with some patches of fog possible overnight.

It will remain warm into the weekend with two more days of similar temperatures. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s again, with lots of sunshine both days. Perfect weather for outdoor activities, such as Festa Italiana at Boylan H.S. so long as you stay hydrated! A little bit of humidity will stick around both days, leading to a bit of warmer feel each afternoon.

A gradual increase in cloud cover will be featured Sunday night, with an approaching front attached to a developing low pressure system. This front will slide nearby Sunday night, with the low pressure tracking along that front through Tuesday. While most of the forcing will be to the North in Southern Wisconsin, we may see some scattered showers and storms locally between Sunday night and Tuesday morning.

Behind the low pressure, cooler air will settle in, with temperatures dropping back below average for a time period through the end of the week. Afternoon highs will be on either side of 80-degrees Tuesday through Friday, while overnight lows may even reach the upper 50s at times. This stretch may not last much longer than the 7-day forecast, but it will be a pleasant and mostly dry stretch giving us early tastes of fall weather.
