Scattered thunderstorms Friday evening

5PM UPDATE: Here's a look at the storm as of 5PM just North of Freeport! This storm and others around it may be capable of producing 40 mph winds and quarter sized hail within the next few hours as they move East at 40 mph.

Thunderstorm coverage on the rise to the NW this afternoon and evening. So far storms have remained below severe limits, but the strongest may be capable of producing 40 mph winds and penny sized hail along with heavy rain and lightning. Storms are moving East at 40 mph. Those at the Winnebago County fair should be ready to shelter when the storms get closer!

While these storms are below severe limits at this time, isolated instances of 60 mph winds and quarter sized hail may be possible within the strongest cores. A Level 1/5 Marginal risk for severe weather is in place for areas along and East of the I-39 corridor.

Storms may form into a cluster along the leading edge of the cold front coming through this evening, reaching peak intensity between 5-8PM. This would be the time frame for any severe weather, if storms were to strengthen. The main window of storms pushes East toward 9/10PM, clearing us out a bit into the night.

As skies clear from rain after 10PM, temperatures will not fall far, only reaching the mid-60s overnight. We may see some breezy winds from the West behind tonight's cold front.
