Either way you see it, there was a hint of fall in the air as afternoon highs peaked in the low 70s. This is something that northern Illinois doesn't typically see until late September. The effects of yesterday's cold front are still being felt this morning as temperatures are sitting 5° to as much 15° cooler.
Although today will not be as cool as Tuesday, today will still be a day to have the windows open and of course a day to have outdoor plans. High pressure sitting over the Great Lakes will result in a sun-filled morning, with a few fair-weather cumulus clouds popping up for the afternoon. The additional sunshine will help bring temperatures up a few degrees compared to Tuesday, landing most near the 80° mark. Again, this is below average considering our average high for August 7th is 83°.
Skies remain partly cloudy overnight with low temps falling near the 60° mark. Models then show a low pressure system sliding over Lake Superior, which will help bring a cold front in Thursday afternoon. With it will come a few more clouds as well as the chance for an afternoon sprinkle or shower.
