Scattered storms possible through Monday night

It was another hot and humid day in the Stateline with temperatures reaching the upper 80s and low 90s across the Stateline, including a high of 87° in Rockford. The warm and humid trend continues into Monday with a frontal boundary developing along a low-pressure system to our West. This will make its way a bit closer to the Stateline region starting Sunday night, bringing scattered rain chances our direction through that time.

Depending on the placement of that front, we may see a few spotty showers and thunderstorms late Sunday evening into early Monday morning. Probability of seeing any rain decreases the further South you look, but even Southern Wisconsin may remain mostly dry overnight.

The frontal boundary may stall out directly overhead Monday afternoon, as the differing wind directions on Futurecast show very well. If this happens, there is a chance for some scattered thunderstorms to develop along that boundary. Should they form, some of those thunderstorms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and small hail, along with an isolated tornado.

Higher coverage of storms will then follow into Monday evening and Monday night, as the low-pressure center and better associated forcing will pass nearly overhead. Some of the strongest embedded storms here may also pose an isolated risk for severe weather into the night. Heavy rain would be the main concern within this window, however.

Monday into Monday night has that narrow window for severe weather, as the Storm Prediction Center favors an area from Southern Minnesota to Northern Illinois within a Level 2/5 Slight risk for severe weather that includes most of our Stateline counties. Again, some models keep us dry through much of this time, but any storms that develop may have the potential to be strong to severe.

Scattered showers may remain possible early into Tuesday, with some breezy conditions through the evening. Clouds remain thick and cold air will continue wrapping in behind the outgoing low-pressure system, keeping afternoon highs in the low-70s on Tuesday. Relatively cool and comfortable weather persists into the rest of the week, with highs in the upper 70s and lows on either side of the 60° mark. We also look to see a prolonged stretch with lower rain chances that may last through next weekend.
