Hurricane Debby makes landfall this morning along Florida coastline

Category 1 hurricane Debby has made landfall this morning near Strinhatchee, Florida as a category 1 hurricane with 80 mph winds.

Debby is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge and major flooding as it meanders near the southeast U.S coast. If you recall, where Debby made landfall is the same region that is still recovering from by Hurricane Idalia which made landfall last August. Idalia was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Big Bend region in more than 125 years.

Multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, have declared a state of emergency ahead of Debby's arrival. Rainfall amounts from Savannah, GA to Charleston, SC may range from 20"-30".

Another big concern with hurricanes is the likelihood for them to produce tropically-induced tornadoes. Areas stretching from Jacksonville to Gainesville to Orlando to Tampa are under a tornado watch until 4PM eastern standard time.

This is for the rotating thunderstorms that are associated with the outer bands of Debby. Typically, these are fast moving tornadoes and are mostly rated between an EF-0 to an EF-2.
