It felt more like late September rather than early August Tuesday with high temperatures in the 70s, 20 degrees *cooler* than highs on Monday. Rockford made it to 74 degrees, but that temperature was achieved early Tuesday morning before the cooler air and cloud cover set in.
For most of the morning and afternoon temperatures stayed in the upper 60s and low 70s. Cloud cover was in abundance thanks to the cooler air, leaving skies cloudy to mostly cloudy for most of the day. You may have noticed skies clearing just as the sun was setting this evening, with the clearing trend continuing into the overnight. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 50s.
High pressure moving in Wednesday will give us a little more sunshine for the afternoon with temperatures warming into the mid and upper 70s. Temperatures throughout the week will remain in the 70s and low 80s, before a return to a more seasonable, slightly warmer, pattern early next week.
We may see a little more cloud cover during the afternoon Thursday, ahead of a cold front that'll sweep through the region Thursday night and Friday morning. This front could bring a light passing shower during the afternoon, but measurable rainfall will be low this week. A few sprinkles may persist into Friday with sunshine returning for the weekend.
