Cold front, gusty winds help cool temperatures into midweek

Whoever participated in a rain dance Sunday, all I have to say is Thank you!

The Stateline saw MUCH-NEEDED rainfall to round out the weekend, leaving most locales with .5" to as much as 1.5" of rain. Rockford wound up with .33" on Saturday, then .63" on Sunday.

Now, we still have some catching up to do in terms of the deficit and the ongoing drought. Unfortunately, the rain chances that slide in this week don't look to have as much to work with moisture-wise.

Ahead of our next chance which is schedule to arrive this evening, we remain quiet but windy. Like Sunday, winds throughout the day could pack a punch, gusting up to 35 mph. This time around, winds will be oriented out of the south, allowing afternoon highs to top out in the upper 60s.

Models then show moisture building up ahead of the incoming front, allowing cloud cover and shower chances to increase. As previously mentioned, this won't be anywhere close to the nature of the rain that came through Saturday into Sunday. The chance that arrives this evening with be more scattered and light, coming to an end before midnight.

Behind the cold front, another dose of cool Canadian air spills in, dropping afternoon highs for the remainder of the work week. Forecast highs Tuesday and Wednesday will end up in the low 50s, then in the upper 50s Thursday. To compare, we are usually near the 60° mark around October 20th.

Overnight lows also get rather chilly, landing around the 40° mark Tuesday night, then in the low 30s Wednesday and Thursday night.
