It feels a lot more like August than October lately, and this weekend will be no different with high temperatures pushing the upper 80s. One key change from Friday will be the increasing wind, with gusts pushing 20-25 mph from the Southwest on Saturday. This will be paired with relative humidity down near or below 30% amid very dry low levels. Afternoon high temperatures may push 90 degrees again, which could tie a record high for Rockford (1922).

Sunday will be more of the same, but stronger winds and drier air. Wind gusts will push 30 mph again from the Southwest. Temperature will still reach the mid to upper 80s, but dew points will also drop a bit compared to Saturday, so relative humidity will again be near 30% Sunday afternoon.

The unseasonable warmth paired with the very dry conditions and strong winds will promote an elevated risk for brush and field fires Saturday and Sunday. Be sure to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with field equipment this weekend.

Some relief will arrive early next week with a passing cold front between Monday and Tuesday. This will bring spotty showers and a big drop in temperatures. Afternoon highs will return to the 60s for a few days next week, much closer to average for this time of year.
