Fall has felt anything but fall-like and with the way the forecast is shaping up, this summer-like heat will not back down as we begin October. Typically, we begin October with average highs in the upper 60s and average lows in the mid 40s.
With high pressure in control at the surface and aloft in the atmosphere, expect highs to remain well-above those marks in the 80s. Temperatures today will end up in the low 80s under filtered sun. Cloud cover will continue to filter through for much of the night, leaving overnight lows in the mid 50s. Winds will then take a turn to the south tomorrow, then southwest Friday and this weekend. This will allow highs to further climb into the 80s, landing close to the 90 mark Friday and Saturday.
Now, forecast models do show a cold front sweeping through late Sunday. Post-frontal passage, afternoon highs will fall back into the 70s for both Monday and Tuesday. However, signs of fall-like weather remain rather low as the latest temperature outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center show a higher chance at warmer than average temperatures as we close in on the middle of October.
