Continued wind brings brief warmth, then more chill

High temperatures Sunday were quite cool in the low 60s, but fairly close to average for this time of year. Strong Northwesterly winds were to blame for the drop in temperatures compared to Saturday.

More strong winds will be possible over the next few days with the direction of the wind determining if we get more warmth or chill. Southerly wind Monday will push temperatures back to the upper 60s, with gusts approaching 35 mph at times. Back to West or Northwest winds Tuesday and Wednesday, which will keep temperatures in the mid 50s for afternoon highs!

Our next rain chances will also be possible along the next low pressure system. The initial cold front will slide through Monday evening, with a few spotty showers developing along it. We will be mainly dry Monday night, but Tuesday will bring a return of scattered showers, adding insult to injury to the cold and windy conditions.

Winds will ease as we head into the middle of the week with high pressure taking over. This will also lead to some downright cold overnights with lows reaching the mid-30s. Widespread frost will be possible if not likely Wednesday and Thursday nights. Rockford typically experiences the first freeze of the year comes around October 9th, so we are running a bit behind schedule. Afternoon high temperatures will slowly climb back toward the low 60s by next weekend, running near average for this time of year.
