Lack of rich moisture keeps rain chances slim this week

Several chances for rain will make their way into the forecast this week. Unfortunately, none of them at this moment in time look like the "washout" we need to battle the current drought situation.

The first comes with a very slow-moving cold front this morning into the late afternoon. Cloud cover and a change in wind to the northeast will limit afternoon highs to the low 70s, very similar to Sunday. Moisture will be severely lacking, which is why any chance for rain today will be widely isolated.

Over the next few days, forecast models show high pressure gradually building over the Deep South and the southern plains. This will lock the more extreme heat to those areas while also placing a slightly more active portion of the jet overhead.

With it will come a few weak "ridge riding" systems, the first arriving late Tuesday. Ahead of it's arrival, dry conditions persist with afternoon highs reaching the low 70s for a 3rd straight day.

Overnight Tuesday, a disorganized batch of light showers will move in, lasting into the first half of our Wednesday. Again, nothing to be too excited about considering totals look to wind up below a tenth of an inch. The rest of Wednesday remains mostly cloudy, though afternoon temperatures will end up a smidge cooler landing in the low 60s.
