Temperatures took another step back Wednesday, making it feel more like November. Officially, the high temperature in Rockford came to 49°, which is 11° below late-October standards.
Believe it or not, that isn't the coldest afternoon high for October 22nd. You would have to go back to 1913 where Rockford only topped out at 35°.
Thursday begins with frost as temperatures bottom out in the low 30s. Frost will quickly give way to lots of sunshine as high pressure moves in.
Another plus with today's forecast, winds won't be as intense as the past few days. Less of a tight pressure gradient means less of a wind, though we still could see winds as high as 20 mph.
The potential for frost and even a freeze grows once again overnight as high pressure settles over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Like last night, the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning. This time around, it's for the entire area and will be in place from 1AM-8AM. Make sure to keep any potted or sensitive plants indoors so they won't be harmed by the freeze that is likely.
Friday will be similar to today. A chilly, frosty start giving way to a slightly warmer afternoon. Skies will feature a few more clouds, leaving us partly cloudy with highs peaking in the upper 50s.
