Above average temperatures stick around for the next few days

Despite the passage of a cold front early Monday morning temperatures were still able to warm into the upper 50s and low 60s, with Rockford's high reaching 62 degrees. The average high should be in the low 50s. As the sun set Monday evening skies were clear which has allowed temperatures to begin to fall, with most as of 6pm down into the mid and upper 40s.

Cloud cover out west will gradually shift east, turning skies mostly cloudy early Tuesday. Despite that, overnight lows will still manage to fall into the mid-30s, holding steady by sunrise Tuesday morning. The passage of a warm front Tuesday will bring afternoon temperatures back into the low 60s, but it'll also come with a gusty south wind. Not quite as strong as it was Monday but gusts approaching 25 mph will be common during the afternoon.

Another cold front late Tuesday night will shift winds back to the northwest with gusts reaching 30 mph. A little bit of a push of cooler air arrives Wednesday afternoon and this may cause temperatures to fall just shy of the 60-degree mark but still remain above average. Temperatures both Thursday and Friday will rise into the upper 50s, close to 60 degrees, before an even bigger temperature change is expected to occur by the weekend.

A strong cold front arrives late Friday night bringing with it a bigger push of cold air. Temperatures will begin their fall Saturday with highs struggling to reach 50 degrees. The coldest air mass looks to arrive Sunday and Monday with afternoon temperatures only reaching the low 40s, and even that could be a struggle. Winds will be gusty during that time with cold wind chills almost a guarantee. And from time to time there could even be a few rain showers, especially Saturday and Saturday night. Overnight lows will fall into the 20s and low 30s, so that'll be something to keep an eye on with any moisture that sticks around through the night.
