Clouds hold strong Tuesday evening, into Wednesday

Low clouds, drizzle, and fog were all a common sight Tuesday afternoon and something that'll carry over into the evening for some in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. A chilly northeast breeze helped keep temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s, with Rockford's high reaching 42 degrees. While not too far from the average high of 46, it felt quite a bit cooler due to the lack of sunshine.

Low pressure will continue to pull further away from the Stateline Tuesday evening taking some of the moisture with it, but not all. This means skies will remain cloudy through most of the evening and overnight. Temperatures will hold steady and are not expected to fall too much through the night, ending in the upper 30s early Wednesday morning. There is some drier air that tries to move in late tonight and that could help chip away at the cloud cover, but wherever the clouds do clear will likely fill back in with fog through Wednesday morning.

Low level moisture sticks around Wednesday which will keep skies mostly cloudy during the afternoon, resulting in highs in the low to mid 40s.
