Today will be the coldest day of the work week, gradual warm-up follows

Winter is here. No, not officially as the winter solstice isn't scheduled to occur until December 21st. However, mother nature is providing us with a taste of what is to come with the recent snowfall and this bitterly cold batch of Arctic air.

Temperatures prior to sunrise are sitting in the low to mid 20s. Though factoring in this morning's rather cold northwest wind is leaving wind chill values in the low to mid teens. Bundle up!

This rather cold breeze is expected stick around for the entirety of our Monday, severely limiting our warm up. This will leave afternoon highs well-below average, in the upper 30s. Normally as we enter the November 10th time frame, Rockford's average highs are dropping into the upper 40s.

Moisture increases overnight, turning Stateline skies mostly cloudy into Tuesday. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures will still end up chilly, landing in the low to possibly mid 20s.

High pressure ducking to our south will help turn our winds to the southwest for Veterans Day. This, along with gradually clearing skies will result in a warmer afternoon, leaving highs in the low 40s. Similar to today, winds could gust up to 25 mph.

As this cold Arctic air continues to filter out, forecast models show a ridge of high pressure settling over the Midwest late in the week. Underneath this upper-level ridge, surface temperatures will warm, ending up in the upper 50s by Friday. We may even end up seeing another 60-degree day on Saturday before our next storm system enters the equation.
