Fog thickens as drizzle and light rain move in Monday evening

Fog will continue to creep into the Stateline Monday evening as a steady stream of moisture moves in from the southwest. As of 4pm, visibility has fallen to under two miles across portions of southwest Wisconsin and northern Illinois, with visibility expected to drop even further through the evening.

The fog is also being accompanied by some drizzle and light showers, now beginning to increase in coverage and will continue throughout the night. With the Stateline split between an area of low pressure to the north and low pressure to the south, we likely won't see much in the way of any meaningful accumulations. But the showers and drizzle are likely to continue into Tuesday morning and afternoon, although decreasing in coverage during the afternoon.

Locally dense fog will also be possible, especially early Tuesday morning, as surface winds remain light and an upper-level low moves right overhead. This could impact the morning commute so make sure to plan accordingly. The fog will be slow to lift Tuesday morning with most of it sticking around through the morning and early afternoon. As a result, temperatures will stay in the 40s until late in the afternoon when the fog clears and clouds thin. We may see another quick shot of rain ahead of a strong cold front that'll bring our temperatures crashing down Wednesday morning.
