Timing out this week's potential for rain

Sunday was a cooler but very dry day in the Stateline with dew points in the teens throughout the afternoon! That very dry air mass will continue to remain in place through much of Monday, with dew point temperatures only rising into the 30s with the arrival of some evening rain showers.

A few sprinkles may begin by late afternoon or early evening Monday, but much of this precipitation will not reach the ground with the very dry low levels evaporating much of it away to start.

As steadier showers approach, more of this rain will reach the ground especially after 6-7PM. The initial onset of precipitation may include a few snowflakes trying to mix in, especially across Southern Wisconsin as temperatures start on the cooler side. If any snow comes down, no impact to roadways is expected with warmer ground and surface temperatures.

The bulk of the precipitation will pull North or East into Tuesday morning, but some lingering light rain showers may persist into the afternoon with the low clouds remaining thick. If any spots were to see clearing, temperatures could soar into the upper 40s. But those under the clouds will remain stuck in the low to mid-40s. Any lingering light rain will exit to the East by the evening, but clouds will remain locked in place.

The end of the week will feature a more active Southwest flow, pulling abundant moisture from the South. But how far North that moisture ends up is still in question and will determine how much rain we could end up seeing toward the end of the week. For now, the next better chances for rain will arrive Thursday and Friday within this pattern. But this far out, it appears to only feature about a 50/50 chance for meaningful or significant rain.
