A WIND ADVISORY will go into effect for all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin early Wednesday morning, lasting through late evening as west winds could gust as high as 50 mph for some Wednesday afternoon.
A very strong cold front will quickly race across the Stateline Tuesday evening bringing with it a line of showers between 6pm and 9pm. The rain won't last long with only a few hundredths of an inch, up to a tenth of an inch, being recorded. A quick push of dry air behind the front will leave conditions mostly dry through the early overnight before a second front moves in early Wednesday. It's with this front that we'll begin to notice our temperatures tumble and the development of snow flurries/showers.
Scattered snow flurries will continue throughout the morning and early afternoon before coming to an end Wednesday evening. While no accumulations are expected there may be a dusting on some of the grassy surfaces if we end up with a steadier snow flurry/shower from time to time. This could also lead a brief period of reduced visibility with some of the steadier snow flurries which may have an impact on the morning, and perhaps afternoon, commute.
The combination of a strengthening low pressure system departing us to the northeast, increasing winds aloft and a rush of cold air are all the perfect recipe for strong wind gusts. Be sure to take some time this evening to secure any loose objects outdoors and be prepared for difficult travel tomorrow. A few power outages also can't be ruled out, especially if we get wind gusts closer to 50 mph.
