Temperatures tumble following Tuesday's cold front

Temperatures are expected to tumble following a strong cold front Tuesday evening, pushing afternoon highs down into the low 30s Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The drop will also come with a blustery west wind, at times gusting to 45 mph Wednesday afternoon.

For the remainder of Monday night, a combination of drizzle, fog, and a few light rain showers from time to time will continue through Tuesday. Temperatures have not moved much, if at all, Monday evening with most readings still between 44-46 degrees. Locally dense fog will be possible early Tuesday so be careful on the morning commute. A DENSE FOG ADVISORY has been issued for Green County in southwest Wisconsin until 10am Tuesday.

While a few spots of drizzle and light rain will continue through the morning, we should see a drier - but cloudy - afternoon. Temperatures may struggle a bit to make it into the low 50s until late in the afternoon when some of the cloud cover and fog begins to thin. We'll hold on to a southwest wind until a strong cold front passes Tuesday evening - between 6pm-8pm - quickly bringing temperatures tumbling into Tuesday night.

Lingering moisture behind the cold front could whip up a few snow flurries/showers through Wednesday morning as westerly winds are expected to gust between 40-45 mph during the morning and most of the afternoon. The official high on Wednesday will likely be reached around Midnight with temperatures falling into the low 30s through sunrise. There won't be much of a temperature climb during the afternoon with temperatures settling right around 34 degrees.

When you wake up Wednesday morning wind chills will be down in the upper teens and low 20s, with chills in the low 20s during the afternoon. West winds will be strong throughout the day so it may be a good idea to secure any loose objects you have outdoors. While the strongest of the wind will come down Wednesday night, northwest gusts still around 30 mph will continue Thanksgiving Day which will hold temperatures right around freezing. Wind chills early Thursday morning will be down in the low teens, only warming into the 20s during the afternoon.
