Return toward average pattern with few rain chances next week

Following Saturday's cold front, temperatures will return much closer to average next week. Afternoon highs will remain in the 40s each day starting Sunday, much closer to the average highs of the upper 40s this time of year.

That also comes with a much drier air mass behind the front. Dew point temperatures will drop down into the 20s and teens Sunday into early Monday. That drier air will need to be worked through before we see any potential rain chances next week.

The first attempt at precipitation will arrive with a weaker weather system Monday night into Tuesday. The center of this system will pass over Central Illinois, as the dry air in place locally may limit how much moisture ends up this far North. Colder air in place ahead of this may allow a few snowflakes to try and mix in across Southern Wisconsin, but precipitation types and coverage will become clearer as we get beyond the weekend.

A much more active pattern looks to set in toward the end of next week and the following weekend. The Climate Prediction Center gives us around a 50-60% chance to see above average precipitation between the 20th-24th. We will see more frequent rain chances during this time, and some of those could produce the potential for soaking rainfall across parts of the Central US. We definitely could use the rain!
