Gusty winds have been the talk of the town not only recently, but since the middle of October. Over the last 3 days, peak gusts at the Rockford Airport have come in at or above 25 mph.
A cold front sliding through will allow this windy stretch to carry on for a 4th straight day. Winds will be at their strongest late in the morning into the early afternoon, gusting up to 30-40 mph.
On the flip side, there won't be much if any moisture for this cold front to work with. This will severely limit the chance for any rain as it sweeps through. So we look to remain dry and mild with highs peaking in the upper 50s, close to the 60° mark.
Winds will continue to be the talk of the town for the remaining days of the work week. On the backside of a high pressure system, winds Thursday will end up breezy out of the southeast. This will result in a fairly similar afternoon temperature-wise, leaving afternoon highs in the upper 50s. The difference, Thursday will feature a bit more cloud cover. Another cold front will pass through Thursday night into Friday, switching winds back to the northwest. Despite the wind change, temperatures will end up warmer to round out the work week, peaking in the low 60s. Tagging along with Thursday's frontal passage will be the chance for a few showers. Forecast models show the best chance arriving late Thursday evening, with chances lasting into early Friday. There may be a 2nd chance for a shower as a secondary cold front slides through early Friday evening.
